Résumé
This study aims to examine the relationship between football fans’ social capital attitudes, considered within the framework of sense of community, and their spectating motives. The study was designed using the descriptive and correlational survey model. The study group consisted of 355 fans, of whom 57 were women and 298 were men, who were Passolig card holders aged 18 or older and who had agreed to participate in the study. The research team used a personal information form developed by the researchers, as well as the “Social Capital Attitude Scale for Sport Fans” and the “Internal Motivations Scale for Sport Spectators” to collect data. Parametric tests (independent t-test and Pearson correlation test) were performed on the data. Significant differences were observed in several sub-dimensions of both scales by gender, whereas differences by prior sport participation emerged only in the internal motivation sub-dimensions (p < .05). Additionally, low-to-moderate positive correlations were found between fans’ social capital attitudes and sports spectators’ internal motivation sub-dimensions. These results suggest that individuals’ internal motivation to watch sports matches increases when they become part of a sports community. Cite this article as: Kaptan, E., Kurt, C., Nebioğlu, İ.
