Résumé
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) causes severe emotional and physical symptoms in the luteal phase that impair quality of life. The study therefore aimed to analyse the available scientific evidence on the use of complementary and alternative therapies in the management of PMDD. A systematic review guided by PRISMA was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science, with a sample of five systematic reviews on acupuncture and herbal medicine. Vitex agnus-castus was the most studied herbal intervention and consistently reduced symptoms; saffron and ginkgo offered moderate benefits; and acupuncture reduced symptoms with low-quality evidence, with good tolerability in all cases. It was concluded that these therapies may complement selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
