Résumé
Geographical and sociocultural barriers limit cervical screening. The study therefore aimed to analyse recent evidence on the effectiveness and diagnostic performance of self-sampling for human papillomavirus detection. A literature review was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO from 2020 to 2025, with a sample of 15 studies. With polymerase chain reaction-based tests, self-sampling has sensitivity and specificity for high-grade lesions similar to clinician collection, mailing kits increases participation compared with conventional invitation, and acceptability is high because of privacy and comfort. It was concluded that self-sampling is an effective strategy to expand coverage.
