Résumé
The HIV burden in Ecuador persists despite the alignment of the national programme with the UNAIDS global strategy. The study therefore aimed to evaluate the national HIV response in Ecuador between 2021 and 2025 regarding its epidemiological trend, care cascade, prevention and governance. A documentary, descriptive and retrospective analysis of official reports and scientific literature was conducted. New diagnoses rose from 4572 in 2021 to 5478 in 2024, with 54.6% in Guayas and Pichincha; about 89% of people knew their diagnosis, 89% of these received treatment and 89% of those treated had viral suppression; and pre-exposure prophylaxis and the elimination of vertical transmission advanced. It was concluded that stable financing and decentralisation are required.
