Résumé
Keratoconus is a progressive corneal ectasia that causes irregular astigmatism and visual deterioration, especially in young people. The study therefore aimed to analyse how keratoconus progression affects patients’ physical, emotional and social dimensions and its relationship with visual acuity loss. A PRISMA-guided systematic review was conducted in Dialnet, Epistemonikos and PubMed of studies published in the last five years. Keratoconus reduced quality of life in general vision, mental health, role performance and social functioning; corneal cross-linking did not change quality of life in the short term; and keratoplasty improved it. It was concluded that individualised management incorporating quality-of-life instruments is needed.
