Résumé
Ageing is accompanied by metabolic and vascular changes that may affect memory, and high-density lipoproteins have been proposed as a factor linked to brain function. The study therefore aimed to determine the relationship between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and self-perceived memory in older adults. An observational, cross-sectional, analytical design was used with secondary data from the Ecuadorian Survey of Health, Well-being and Ageing, including 1,950 people aged 60 years or older with complete data. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol differed across self-perceived memory groups according to analysis of variance and the Kruskal-Wallis test, although no gradient favouring better perceived memory was observed. It was concluded that longitudinal studies with objective cognitive assessment are needed.
