Résumé
Sickle cell disease is a hereditary haemoglobinopathy that increases the risk of perioperative complications in children undergoing abdominal surgery such as appendectomy. The study therefore aimed to develop a substantive theory explaining the perioperative care process for paediatric patients with sickle cell disease undergoing appendectomy from the perspective of nursing practice. A qualitative grounded theory design was used with 15 nurses from paediatric surgical units, who took part in in-depth interviews analysed with the constant comparative method. The central category was the construction of safe and humanised perioperative care, structured around comprehensive clinical assessment, prevention of complications, pain management, interdisciplinary coordination and postoperative surveillance. It was concluded that nursing integrates the anticipation of physiological risk with emotional support for the child and the family.
