Résumé
Smoking behavior among adolescents is a public health problem influenced by various individual, family, social, and environmental factors. This study aimed to determine the influence of knowledge, parents, cigarette seller availability, peers, cigarette prices, and cigarette advertising on smoking behavior among junior high school students in Pemayung District in 2025. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 285 junior high school students in Pemayung District. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that, of the 285 respondents, 100 students (35.1%) exhibited smoking behavior, while 185 students (64.9%) did not. The bivariate analysis indicated significant influences of parental factors on smoking behavior (p=0.007; PR=1.64; 95% CI: 1.22–2.41), peer influence on smoking behavior (p<0.001; PR=4.55; 95% CI: 2.77–7.48), and cigarette advertising on smoking behavior (p<0.001; PR=2.34; 95% CI: 1.76–3.12). In contrast, knowledge (p=0.626), cigarette seller availability (p=0.996), and cigarette prices (p=0.722) did not show a significant influence on smoking behavior. Based on the bivariate analysis, it can be concluded that, of the six factors examined, three factors had a significant influence on smoking behavior among junior high school students in Pemayung District in 2025, namely parental factors, peer influence, and cigarette advertising. Efforts to prevent smoking behavior among students should involve families and peer environments, as well as strengthen control over adolescents’ exposure to cigarette advertising.
